Mobile Phone Services

Mobile phone help - I am receiving ringtones, wallpaper or jokes. How do I stop them?

The first step to stop further messages is to reply to the received ringtone, wallpaper or joke and type in the text: STOP RINGTONES or STOP JOKES or just STOP.

If this has worked, you should receive a confirmation text message.

If you receive these messages from multiple providers, you will need to send a STOP message to each provider.

If you continue to receive the messages after sending STOP, contact the provider directly. The contact number for the provider is in the SMS you sent the STOP reply to. You can also find it on your Telstra Mobile Bill under 'Separate Purchases'.

For more information call 1800 125 593 or your Telstra Business Account Representative.

Mobile phone help - How can I avoid ongoing subscriptions to premium services?

You can request a barring code on your service that will prevent anyone using the phone from subscribing to these services. You can also place a spend limit for premium services on the account, which will help you to manage your costs. If you wish to have a barring code on your service or your spend limit changed, please call 125 111.

On pre-paid services, once your available credit has run out, you will not be able to subscribe to any new services or send any messages – including STOP messages.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about Premium Services, please call Telstra on 125 111.

Mobile phone help - Why have changes been made to my mobile phone service?

Mobile as a modem - How do I use my Next G™ phone or PDA as a modem?

Your Next G™ mobile is a powerful all-in-one business tool. You can make calls, send text messages, search mobile web and send emails and also use it as a mobile modem for your laptop or even your desktop computer.

How do I do it?

See the below link for instructions for selected Next G™ mobiles and install the relevant software. Then connect your handset to your computer for wireless broadband internet access.

If your device is not listed, please call your device manufacturer or check the user guide for more information.

Mobile as a modem - When is it better to use a mobile phone rather than a PDA as a modem?

There is generally no difference in using either as a modem. However, each device might vary in its download speed capability, which can impact on overall performance. Check the product specifications of your device for more information on the speed capability of your device.

In addition, a PDA may allow you to read documents such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and Adobe PDF and perform productivity tasks such as email, calendar and contacts. It may also have a larger screen, which makes it easier to read messages, view attachments and use the device. This means you can perform many functions, such as reading your email or checking your calendar, without setting up your laptop.

Mobile as a modem - When is it better to use a mobile phone rather than a Telstra Turbo Card as a modem?

If you only use mobile broadband occasionally, 1–8 times a month, using your mobile as a modem is probably right for you. If you use mobile broadband more than eight times per month, for extended periods of time or regularly download more than 100MB of data per month, consider getting a Telstra Turbo Card to provide added convenience.

Mobile as a modem - Which data plans are suitable for me to use with my mobile or PDA?

If you are occasionally using your mobile or PDA as a modem, we recommend a Browsing Pack ranging from $5 to $29 a month (you must also have an eligible post-paid Telstra mobile service active to take up these plans). Telstra also offers a range of data packs suitable for more frequent users. Please select the below link to obtain more information on larger data plans.

Mobile as a modem - How can I control my costs with a casual data pack?

We recommend you proactively check your usage by visiting the 'Data usage account' menu under the 'My Place' menu on your Next G™ handset. Check your user guide or select the below link for more information on accessing 'My Place'.

Mobile as a modem - How do I use my Palm® Treo™ 750 as a modem?
