The Next G™ network provides access to mobile broadband, allowing users to wirelessly access the internet and corporate networks using PC cards and modems connected to a laptop or PDA.
Today the Next G™ network reaches 99 per cent of the Australian population. Like any other mobile network, Next G mobile telephone coverage depends in part on where you are, what particular handset you are using and whether your handset has an external antenna attached.
Telstra previously operated, funded and maintained two mobile network technologies: GSM and CDMA.
This meant that we were duplicating costs while maintaining the networks, which didn’t make sound commercial sense. Telstra believes that the GSM path provides a better platform for its mobile services now and in the future. It provides access to higher data speeds and better applications, and provides the economies of scale that come from a technology that around 82% of the world’s mobile phone subscribers use.
Customers with HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) data cards and modems will have faster data download speeds on the Next G™ network.
The latest Series 7 devices are peak rated at 1.9Mbps for upload as well as 7.2Mbps for download2 speedswith typical average customer download speeds of 550Kbps to 3Mbps bursting up to 6Mbps in some areas1.
Now, just like the 7 Series, the 3 Series devices can be upgraded online from a 3.6Mbps peak rated to a 7.2Mbps peak rated card, and are ideal for when you need to download large files to keep your business running while you'e on the road. Typical customer upload speeds range from 300Kbps to 1Mbps.1
Telstra's mobile broadband gives you the option to use one of two automatic logout domains based on your data pack type to help you control your costs.
